Surfers, paddlers, swimmers, divers, kayakers, fishers, cruise ship passengers—those of you who enjoy and care about the Ocean:
We are gathering informal documentation on the ways our ocean is being impacted by cruise ships.
- Have seen trash, oil slicks or human waste in the ocean that you think may be associated with cruise ships?
- Have you witnessed an incident of trash being dumped overboard or effluent being released from a cruise ship?
If you have witnessed trash or ocean dumping that you feel might be associated with cruise ships, please fill out the form below. We are collecting anecdotal information to determine if there is a pattern of ocean impacts that will help convince legislators of the need for regulations.
If you have witnessed suspicious garbage in the water and there is an indication that the garbage or oil is related to cruise ship activity, please take the time to fill out the following form. Help save Hawai‘i’s marine environment today.
Keep in mind those individuals whose documentation of dumping leads to fines against a cruise line may be eligible to receive half of any fine that is levied under the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships. In one case, passengers videotaped plastic bags being dumped overboard. This crucial evidence led to criminal charges against the cruise line and the passengers who provided the videotape shared the $250,000 fine.
